Cunningsburg Agricultural Fair 2023
Last week, we went to the annual Cunningsburg Agricultural Show in Shetland. The highlight of the event for us was the Shetland pony competition. These ponies were initially bred to replace child laborers in coal mines. Their small size and strength made them ideal for pulling coal carts through the low-overhead tunnels. However, their mining days in the USA came to an end in 1971. We had a great time at the sheep competition, where we saw the prize-winning Shetland wool and some incredible knitting. Even the electric company was present to promote safety while teaching children to climb power poles!
